President's Spin

April is half over and I finally put together a blog for this month. We have had a great start to the 2010 cycling season. I hope everyone is taking in the good weather and getting out on a bicycle.

WCC NEWS:
  • Our name is officially changed. We start the 2010 season as the Winnipeg Cycling Club. I would like to thank VP Kaye Grant for looking after the registration of the new name. The web site has also been change and I would like to thank Web Master Dan Tophan for all his work.
  • The club executive is moving the executive meetings to the new Manitoba Sports Federation Building starting April 20th. I would like to thank Dan T for hosting the January meeting in his home and I also would like to thank Tim Woodcock of Woodcock Cycle Works for donating his store’s lunchroom for the Feb and March meetings.
  • The 2010 Ride Schedule is finished. This year we had two committees working on the schedule.
    • Day Rides (week-ends) – Dan T(coordinator), Arnie J, Roger L and George S. This year’s schedule has something for everyone. They have put together old favorites and exciting new rides. If you haven’t participated in a Day Ride this is the year to do it.
    • Wednesday Rides – Cycle in the City – Rick K (coordinator) Dan T, Gord F, Berre H and Bob K. The committee put together a schedule of old and updated rides. There will be some new start location. Our hope is to expand the rides to include many of the new paths and bike routes in the city. Check the schedule or calendar for ride start locations.
    •  Monday Rides - have the same coordinators as last year Cornelia D (North Spokes) and Henry S (South Spokes).
  • On April 6th we had our Spring Kick-Off. I did not get the official attendance but the room was full. I like to thank Pauline P for arranging the room at the U of W. Highlights of the Spring Kick-Off meeting:
    • Berre H updated the membership on the plans for the Active Transportation Paths that are to be built or completed in 2010.
    • Dan and Mark T gave a PowerPoint presentation on how to use the WCC web site.
    • Pauline P and I gave an explanation on how to use the MCA online registration
    • I reminded all members that everyone on a WCC sanctioned ride must have signed a MCA Waiver and  fill out a WCC Membership Form
    • I would also like to thank Rick K for insisting on pizza which everyone enjoyed
  • On May 27th we are having our 2nd Spring BBQ at the Buffalo Stone Café - Forte Whyte Alive. The BBQ is open to all members, their family and friends. Cost is $20.00 per person. RSPV Kaye at vicepresident@winnipegcyclingclub.ca by May 22nd.
  • The first ride of the year was well attended (Saturday April 10th). It was an enjoyable ride to Headingley and back, with a great lunch at Nick’s. Even a couple of flat tires didn’t ruin the day.
